Entry Grade Nu Gundam vs RX-78F00/E: First Gunpla Kit

Quick answer

For your first Gunpla, choose the Entry Grade Nu Gundam if you want more weapons and a Char's Counterattack connection; choose the RX-78F00/E if you prefer the Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai design and a lower price. Both are tool-free snap-fit 1/144 kits, so the decision comes down to which mobile suit you like and what you want in the box.

Trade-offs to weigh

• Accessory count vs simplicity: The Nu Gundam packs more weapons (two beam saber types, beam rifle, hyper bazooka, fin funnels), while the RX-78F00/E keeps it simpler with a beam rifle, shield, and beam saber grips. More accessories add display options but also more small parts to handle. If you want a straightforward first build, the RX-78F00/E's simpler loadout may be less overwhelming.
• Design preference vs budget: The RX-78F00/E costs less at catalog price and has a unique Expo 2025 origin, while the Nu Gundam appeals to Char's Counterattack fans. Choose based on which design you'd rather look at on your shelf. Set a firm budget before choosing; both kits are close in price, so design often decides.
• Articulation and posing: Both kits offer beginner-friendly snap assembly, but the supplied facts note the RX-78F00/E has wide articulation for dynamic action poses, while the Nu Gundam features polycap-jointed articulation. Neither is inherently better for beginners; consider whether you prioritize poseability or accessory variety. If dynamic posing is your main goal, the RX-78F00/E's wide articulation is a plus.
