Decide whether to buy the blind box set or the standalone Kage figure with this practical guide for Ranking of Kings collectors.
Quick answer
For collectors who want variety and the thrill of a chase, the Ranking of Kings Mini-Figure Blind Boxes offer five unique designs plus rare gold variants. If you specifically want Kage in a guaranteed, larger display piece, the standalone Ranking of Kings Kage Mini-Figure is the better choice.
Blind box vs standalone: what you actually get
The blind box set gives you five different character designs (including Bojji, Kage, and Daida) in a randomized format. Each figure comes with a base for easy display, except the ones designed to stand independently. The set also includes alternate gold versions as chase items, adding a layer of excitement for repeat buyers.
The standalone Kage figure is a single, guaranteed purchase. It stands about 2 inches tall and is made from high-quality PVC. You know exactly what you're getting, and the larger size (compared to the blind box figures) makes it a more prominent display piece.
Trade-offs to consider
The blind box format means you might get duplicates if you buy multiple boxes. The standalone figure eliminates that risk but gives you only one character. If you're a completionist, the blind box set is the only way to collect all five designs and the gold variants, but you'll need to buy several boxes to do it.
Display preference matters too: the blind box figures come with bases or stand independently, while the standalone Kage figure is a single, slightly larger piece that works well as a desk or shelf centerpiece.
How to decide: blind box set or single figure
- Choose the blind box set if: You enjoy the surprise of unboxing and want a variety of characters. The five designs plus gold variants give you a complete collection over multiple purchases.
- Choose the standalone Kage figure if: Kage is your favorite character and you want a guaranteed, larger display piece without the risk of duplicates.
- Budget and value: The blind box is priced at USD 4.79 (down from USD 7.99), making each figure affordable. The standalone Kage figure costs USD 10.34 (down from USD 14.99), offering a larger size and guaranteed character for a higher price. If you want multiple characters, the blind box set gives you more figures for a lower per-unit cost.
